Did You Know? Potash companies are planning to spend approximately $13 billion on expansions to their existing mines by 2020. A number of companies new to the Saskatchewan potash industry are considering developing greenflield potash mines. Mineral Administration Registry Saskatchewan (MARS) BackgroundThe original design of MARS was set out in a White Paper released by the Ministry in 2008. Following governmental approval of the project, the Ministry entered into a contract with the Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan (ISC) to develop the MARS system. ISC was chosen to carry out this work owing to its expertise in the development and operation of land registry systems. Once operational, MARS will allow for the web-based administration of mineral claims, permits and leases. The system will rely on geomatics data maintainde by both ISC and the Ministry of Energy and Resources. The development of the MARS system is being lead by the Lands and Development Services Branch within the Ministry of Energy and Resources (ER). Please contact Mike Detharet, Director of Mines (phone: 306-787-2139) if you have any questions about the development of the MARS system. |
